THE SOUTH SHETLANDS
seem to mind answering our often daft questions. Later on in the day whilst we were up on the bridge we encountered our first iceberg, which was fabulous to see. After dinner we cruised through Antarctic Sound which was incredibly scenic and the part between the Antarctic Peninsula and the offshore islands. The icebergs were more frequent by this point and we had a wonderful sunset giving us chance to take far too many photos! The sky turned all sorts of pinks and oranges as the sunset behind some distant icebergs. The sky never went truly dark due to it being the polar summer and us seeing our second episode of white nights, only this time from the opposite hemisphere. The sky and scenery was captivating and it is hard to believe what your seeing is real. It was already some of the most awe-inspiring landscape either of us had ever seen. It is truly breathtaking to stand on the deck of a ship whilst watching these ice giants pass you by as they clunk and groan their way along this stretch of water. It
was a magical end to a fantastic day. Antarctica was casting her magical spell on us and it is hard to describe the excitement we felt for the place and the oncoming days where we would have the chance to explore this remote and sublime land a little further - but not far enough we were already thinking!
