AGRA
drivers were dead right about leaving it till sunset, and the white marble did seem to change colour as the sun went down, just as the guidebooks say it does!! We had a look around the building itself, and the view across the river with the sun going down was superb. In common with most places in India, the City looked better at night, mostly because you can’t see all the rubbish and pollution!!! The mausoleum on the inside was very dark, but quite mad as there were huge marble slabs with intricate patterns cut out of them, and gemstones set in as well - the craftsmanship needed to have constructed this place was truly mind-blowing!!! We left as dusk fell feeling that we had seen a truly amazing sight.
Noah and his party were leaving at 4.30am to catch a train to Rajasthan, so we had to get cracking with the beer drinking so that they wouldn’t be up too late. We spent a fun couple of hours

exchanging travelling stories, and then sampled the hotel’s food before saying our goodbyes and heading off to bed. We’d decided that although we’d really done everything in Agra we’d stay the next night at the hotel, mostly because we wanted a lie in in the morning, and we hadn’t arranged any transport out of there.
The next day we were pretty chilled. After a lie in and a leisurely breakfast we arranged train tickets to Dehra Dun, although only from Delhi as the train from Agra didn’t run on that day. Most of the afternoon was spent on the internet uploading photos to the website, as the connections were quite fast. We did go to a hotel with a pleasant rooftop restaurant overlooking the Taj, and enjoyed a feast of Spaghetti in curry sauce with grated cheese, cheese and tomato sandwiches, a salad and chips. (A strange combination from a strange menu, but after 2 days of curry curry
