WANAKA & QUEENSTOWN
at Old McDonalds had said that they found it to be very touristy after Wanaka, and it did have a reputation as the action capital of the South, with Jet boating, bungy jumping, river surfing and countless other death defying pursuits!! On arrival though we were pleasantly surprised, after expecting Blackpool, we were greeted with Windermere, so to speak. Queenstown was a delightful lakeside place, and while there was the occasional (very noisy) jet boat on the lake, it didn뭪 spoil the peace too much!! It wasn뭪 a big place, we strolled around the town, stopping only briefly for a delicious home made ice cream, in actual fact the first ice cream we뭗 had since the monster ones in Sydney - I don뭪 think Hel뭩 ever been put off so ice cream for so long!!! J We drove up around the edge of would you believe, Ben Lomond, to Moke Lake, a gorgeously isolated place with a DOC campsite, and as the weather turned in a little, we settled into Bongo for a evening of fine food, OK
boxed wine, cards and yahtzee!!! For all of you Lord of the Rings fans this area is where a great deal of the film was shot, but seeing as we didn뭪 like the film we didn뭪 have a clue what was shot where!
We were up early the next morning to catch the early bird internet caf?happy hour, chiefly to see if there was any way we could avoid having to have a US visa. There wasn뭪, and to make matters worse it turned out that we couldn뭪 phone their premium rate number even if we had a phone card!!! Arrghh!! Determined not to let it spoil our day, we had a go on the 밼risbee golf?course they had set up in the park. It involved throwing a frisbee around a set course with trees as flags. It didn뭪 hold our attention for long, mostly because our travel light frisbee which we bought in Wellington wasn뭪 really designed to be thrown very far, which kind of hindered
