BACK TO AUCKLAND
local tapas bar. Now the tapas bars in New Zealand aren’t quite the same as they are in Spain or the UK, they don’t do the same kind of dishes apart from Potato Bravos and Olives and bread. The bar was fairly expensive so we ordered a couple of starters and thought we’d take it from there. The starters were fairly large so we thought they would do for now and we would find somewhere cheaper to eat. After a while we headed back to the previous bar and had a couple of glasses of bubbly while it was still happy hour! Then we ordered a big bowl of kumara (sweet potato) chips. Time was ticking by and I suggested that we leave but Rob was up for another drink so we headed down to a waterside bar for a last drink before getting the bus back to our campsite. (Typical woman trying to blame me - she was up for it too!! - Rob). We ended up meeting a really nice Western Samoan lady on the bus who gave us an in-depth history lesson about the Western Samoans in New Zealand. We got back to the campsite in good spirits
and there were a few people still up and about so we went over to the kitchen and ended up sitting and chatting for another couple of hours.
All in all it had been a great day, we both had visa’s, Rob had a new pair of comfy boots and we’d had a nice couple of hours sampling a few of Auckland’s watering holes.
