REST OF THE BIG ISLAND
we saw this large fish like thing swimming out to sea. Closer inspection with our zoom lens was inconclusive between a dolphin or a shark. We took a scenic route back round the Island via Pololu valley, a slightly smaller version of Waipio which was a little more manageable to walk down. The beach at the bottom was really picture perfect. White sands, big waves and steep sided green valleys either side. There were lots of surfers of varying abilities, including a small dog being introduced to the sport!!

The rest of the day back at Laupahoehoe was very chilled - we met up later on with a guy called Ben who was from the San Francisco area, so we grilled him for information round the campfire. All in all it was a pleasant last night, spoiled only by the realisation when we came to pack in the morning that I had left half of Hel’s rucksack in the shelter overnight, and someone had nicked it!!
Ooops! So I was very much in the doghouse for the rest of the time there, understandably so I guess, as it was the part with the straps on! We flew back to Honolulu the next day and spent the last night in the same hostel, and before we knew it we were back in the Sky on our way to San Francisco where Hel’s Mum and Roland awaited. (Hopefully!!)
