The next day the weather wasn’t quite as bad so we thought we venture into downtown on the bondinho. We got accosted by some kids who wanted to take our photos on their mobile phones and seemed very pleased that we agreed. After this we headed into what we thought was downtown but ended up well away from the touristy streets. We walked through a park where Rob took a quick look at the map at which point two scallies clocked us and started to follow us. We were aware of this and there were loads of people around but still they tried to pickpocket us. We shouted out and a few people looked around and they ran off. It was all over very quickly and they were definitely just opportunists but even so it did shake us up a little. There is no getting away from the fact that we do stand out and with this in
mind we weren’t carrying anything of importance with us. All we had with us was the equivalent of around £2, sunglasses and a phrasebook, our credit cards and large amounts of cash were all safely back at the hostel. After this we back tracked and headed back towards the bondinho, but en-route Rob stopped in a the barbers to get a haircut. It has to be said it was the worst haircut he has had. I have no idea how a barber can go so wrong with clipping hair but believe me it was the oddest clipper cut either of us have ever seen! After this we headed back to the hostel and chilled around catching up with photos and diaries as well as playing the odd game of impossible pool.
