THE DRAKE PASSAGE
to the lifeboat but enter it! It was very claustrophobic in there and we were keeping everything crossed that we wouldn’t need to use them!
We knew we would have calm waters until around 1 a.m. then we would enter the Drake Passage and who knows what the weather would throw at us there. The members of staff were very good and informative about seasickness and told us that if we were concerned in any way then we should go and see the doctor and get a seasickness patch! We were off like a shot and at only a Euro per patch thought we’d try anything we could.
Dinner was served around 8 p.m. and to be honest, it was fairly rubbish and the portions weren’t very big at all. We didn’t want to become judgemental and thought they may have given us bland food for a reason! After dinner

we chatted to a few people before heading back to our cabin. We were fairly tired, I’m not sure if it was a side effect from the seasickness tablets or patch but we thought it was probably best to get as much sleep as we could while the waters were still relatively calm!
Before we settled down Rob went off to find where the “anti-fall out of bed straps” were, as he had the top bunk and was concerned about falling out in rough seas. After finding them we settled into our respective bunks with our books until sleep finally took over and we entered the land of nod. We were rudely awakened to the boat resembling a roller coaster as it lurched from side to side and up and down. It must have been fairly choppy but if you lay down and closed your eyes it felt almost like a circular motion which wasn’t too bad. Thankfully neither of us felt particularly seasick and if you just relaxed and went with the flow of the ship then you were OK. It was fairly
