THE DRAKE PASSAGE
comical trying to get to the bathroom but thankfully there was one right opposite our cabin! Neither of us slept particularly well that night. I guess we probably did get some sleep in very sporadic bursts but we had plenty of time over the next two days to relax and catch up on sleep so that it didn’t really matter too much.

I must had drifted off as I was fairly startled by a voice booming out of the loud speaker saying “Good Morning everyone, Good Morning! Breakfast will be served in half an hour.” It turns out that it was Troels’s voice over the speakers which became an early morning feature and a very happy and enthusiastic way to start the day! I felt a little shaky when first standing and getting dressed was quite comical as we were both staggering around the cabin and bumping into each other. We looked as if we’d had quite a few too many!!! After successfully managing to get
dressed we headed down for breakfast which was a buffet type of affair. Again it was comical to see the passengers who had made it down for breakfast staggering around and trying to keep boiled eggs on their plates and drinks in their cups! It was here that we realised that we had a group of Russian divers onboard and not only were we quite surprised by this, but we totally admired them for diving in what must be some of the coldest waters in the world. We felt quite privileged to be sharing our expedition with them especially as the youngest member of their team was a 14 year old girl, which meant that she would become the youngest person to ever dive in Antarctica - pretty impressive stuff.

After breakfast I didn’t feel particularly great so went for a lie down and before I knew it I was back in the land of nod catching up on all of those lost night hours! Rob was feeling better than me
