THE LAST LEG
nfortunately we slept through Troels’s last wake up call so missed our last breakfast. Phil came knocking on our door at 7.45 and thankfully woke us up! As predicted we felt very sad saying goodbye to everyone, there were hugs all round and I have to admit I felt quite teary. It was crazy to think that Speedy and co would only have a few hours in Ushuaia before heading back to the ship and back out into the Drake Passage with another group of passengers for another new adventure.

We have met some wonderful people and make some really good friends and it will be sad to finally say goodbye. We have a small chance of meeting up with Doris and Jacob in South Africa and really the pleasure would be ours. Phil is travelling for another year but we will definitely stay in touch and no doubt we’ll pop down to Anglesey to catch up with Gary when we finally return. I also hope that one day in the future we
will again meet up with the Maryshev, her wonderful crew and our expedition team of Troels and Rupert. It would be more than wonderful to go exploring the polar seas once more. Rob had chatted in great length with Troels about the wonders of the Artic around Greenland so here’s hoping that one day that dream will also come true!

I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed this trip, it was a true adventure and one that will never be forgotten. Antarctica is a captivating place that leaves you wanting more. It is so important that this isolated land stays so relatively untouched, the abundant wildlife is happy to live side by side and without the interference of Man. We feel very proud to have been to one of the most beautiful places on earth and can quite honestly say that it takes number one spot in the places we have visited. It is truly astounding and it has certainly given us the polar bug
