TORRES DEL PAINE
seen - the light that was cast onto the Paine Massif was just spectacular, and a very fitting way to say goodbye to a fantastic, if exhausting five days!!!
Back in Puerto Natales we slept like little babies in our big comfy beds and spent the next day handing back our camping gear, eating a really nice lunch that wasn’t soup or pasta, and talking to the folks at home on the internet. I even managed to get video conferencing working with Mum and Dad, which was really nice!! Later on we shared our tea with Jenny and Eddie, we’d made too much pizza and they’d made too much pasta!! The wine flowed as did the stories from the park, and before we knew it we were in a local’s club with Alejandro and Sebastiano, another guest there!! All great fun, but unfortunately we didn’t set our alarm clock properly and were awoken in the morning by Alejandro with just three minutes to get up, dressed and

The clear skies that I’d been wishing for hadn’t materialised I’m afraid, we took off and were in thick cloud within a minute. We were also annoyed with the people we’d bought our tickets off as they’d said that there was only snacks on the plane - in actual fact they served a full lunch but of course we hadn’t ordered veggie. Any annoyance about this soon disappeared though when suddenly the clouds dissolved all around us and we were treated to the most incredible view of the ice field. The sheer size of the ice features up there were just astounding -
