THE COLCA CANYON
hour to wait for the next bus, and eventually the fog did clear at our level - but not from in the canyon itself. By this time we figured our luck just wasn’t in and it was time to head back to the hotel to pick up our bags and head off back to Arequipa. The weather was much improved on the way back and we got some great views from the bus, including spotting a few more condors cruising the canyon, and a good few llamas and alpacas on the way back!!

It was nice to be back in Arequipa for a night, a couple of thousand meters lower and a good few degrees warmer. We went out to one of Peru’s numerous budget Chinese eateries, and while they may not be the most authentic of places, they are sure tasty and filling for not much dosh!! We caught up with our internet stuff the next day and spoke to a few people on skype before heading off that evening for our overnight bus to Cuzco, the Inca
heartland and the gateway to Machu Picchu. The Colca Canyon had been a definite highlight for us, the scenery and the people were equally amazing - a truly Peruvian experience!!
