DOLPHIN COAST & DURBAN
-odd!!

When we got back to the hostel we thought we’d see if we could go down to their private beach. We’d been told that we couldn’t drive down there in the car, but just to ask if we wanted to go and they’d take us there in their Land Rover. As it happened though the group who’d been having the conference were heading down there - on a tractor and trailer!! It turned out that they were a group of local tractor sales people, not who you’d expect to meet in a hostel but they were friendly enough and offered us a beer from their cool box!! It was a great ride through all the sugar cane down sandy roads to the beach, if a little bumpy!! And the beach and estuary were just gorgeous!! We stayed down there for around half and hour just soaking up the sun and watching the ocean, and then were off again on our trailer back to the hostel.

We headed out for dinner at around six, and had a decent meal. I opted for a prawn curry and requested it hot - and it certainly was that, although it was a little Rusholme style, and certainly not as good as one of mine, even if I do say so myself!! Mike and Hel had Brinjals, which Mike had asked about earlier on had been told that they were a local pastry dish. Turned out that they were in fact aubergines, not Mike’s favourite but he seemed to enjoy it nonetheless!! After our meal we headed back to the hostel for one last fire and a few beers for our last night.

Mike was leaving from Durban the next evening so we decided that we would check into a room near the airport as it would be almost dark when we dropped him off and we didn’t fancy our chances of finding somewhere in the dark. As it tuned out the airport was on the other side of the city so we didn’t even have to go through it.
