TALLINN

2ND-7TH JUNE 2005

The ship docked at bang on 11.00a.m. and we got a taxi up to our apartment as we had no map of where we were going or how far the ferry port was from Old Town Tallinn. After a bit of a hair raising taxi ride, we arrived at the top end of our street - Muurivahe, and after a brief bit of confusion as to where we were, we soon found our way to outside our apartment. The apartment is wicked just as good as it looked on the internet pictures, they are so chilled about stuff here, now its actually 17.40 on 6th June we leave tomorrow morning at 6.00 a.m. and we still haven’t paid yet - how chilled is that!

Before long we were out and about investigating beautiful old town Tallinn. The old town is a labyrinth of medieval cobbled streets, soaring spires, rugged walls and fairy tale like building steeped in so much history, its hard to describe the sense of awe you feel
wandering those narrow streets. It was a beautiful sunny warm day which was very much welcome after the cold and dampness of Stockholm, so after our initial wandering, (its hard work on all those cobbles and steep streets!) we soon found ourselves in the Old Town Square eyeing up which bar we were going to frequent! Brilliant! another country who appreciates the wonders of drinking cider spelt sider! So after a wonderful pint of ice cold sider and larger in the sun, we began to fully appreciate the wonders of Old Town Tallinn, its hard to think that the beautiful square we were sitting in had once been used for public hangings! Far better use of it now me thinks! Although we did come across 2 groups of UK stag parties, one of which seemed nice and chilled and the other group arrived groom to be in a wedding dress, they made a lot of noise and ordered 23 pints of larger! I really hope that the Brits on the piss brigade don’t just use Tallinn as a cheap place to come for booze fuelled wee
