KATHMANDU
got out, there was even more high pitched irate talk and then money was exchanged and that was that, our man had got his money and all was well - phew!!! They all got back in apologised for what had happened and we thankfully set off at a more leisurely pace! The rest of the journey was uneventful except for a puncture which we got fixed in no time at all, these cars still have inner tubes much to Robs amusement! We passed through some amazing scenery and were remarkably relaxed by the time we hit Kathmandu!
Our driver was taking us to a hotel in Thamel but we wanted to stay in Paknajol as this was supposed to be slightly quieter but he didn’t know where it was so we were dropped off in Thamel outside the Centrepoint hotel. appear to be any road rules at all, there are vehicles of all shapes and sizes all demanding whatever small piece of space they can get, all papping their horns, going which ever way they fancy and creating what can only be described as absolute chaos!
After carefully negotiating our way through the Thamel streets and fending off the endless street traders we found our way into Paknajol, we had found 3 potential guest houses in lonely planet and plumped for the Kathmandu Peace Guest House, which was very quiet and had a wicked roof top garden. Our room was on the top floor, it had a small balcony, great views, and what seemed like Nepal’s version of Sky TV, hurray the time had finally come where we could do what we wanted when we wanted and finally chill! We had a shower, ordered some food and a beer and went and sat in the garden and breathed a big sight of relief, that we had found
