THE MEKONG DELTA
Rough Guide, it was only about a 10 minute walk from where the boat stopped, so nothing too hectic or so we thought!!!
I think the first thing we noticed was how big this place was, we had imagined some tiny little town, but it was a large busy bustling place, with millions of motorbikes buzzing around and coming at you from every angle! We headed off in the direction of the hotel and unfortunately found ourselves walking straight through the market. I’m never really sure why people find these places so fascinating or they get such good write ups in the travel guides, as they always fill me with dread at what kind of animal cruelty we will see. Unfortunately we witnessed some terrible fish cruelty so much so that Rob has stopped eating fish whilst we’re in Vietnam. They just leave them to die, they don’t even bother killing them, so the poor things are thrashing around sometimes not even

in water - sick if you ask me. It was China all over again.
We got to the hotel and the room was OK, a bit caravan like but clean and it overlooked the river so would definitely do for the night! We went down to the restaurant which was lovely, a floating platform right on the river and had little bamboo alcoves, and the food wasn’t too bad either!
We then headed out into town and we looking around at the tours on offer. We had heard that the Mekong Delta was one of the highlights of Vietnam, and there were a multitude of tours on offer, ranging from just boat trips to home-stays. We had wanted to do a home-stay but they only did them as part of tours which included visits to fish farms, and sounded very touristy so we thought we’d just go to Vinh Long and get a boat trip and maybe a home-stay on An Binh Island, supposedly one of the
