WELLINGTON
heading back, and as it was the day of my Nan’s funeral we went back and had a few more glasses of wine. At the time of the service which was 11 p.m. our time, we lit a candle and raised a glass for her. It was all we could do really, but it was good telling Rob loads of stories about her and her obsession with me and her being convinced that I never ate properly, I don’t think she ever really understood the vegetarian thing!
We didn’t set the alarm and slept in till the ripe old time of 9.00 a.m. We have thought we would head into Wellington sooner than we had the day before but again we didn’t actually get there till around lunch time. It was a beautiful sunny day and we got the cable car which is actually a funicular to the Botanical Gardens which are situated on top a big hill with great views over the harbour. The gardens also sported an observatory which we were going to have a look

around, but we didn’t really fancy being indoors so thought we may do it when we were next in Wellington. The gardens were top, they had a weird listening device thingy which was very cool and various other features dotted throughout the park. There was also a fantastic herb garden and enormous rose garden. We were a little bit too late to see the flowers in full bloom but it was still pretty impressive all the same. We spent the best part of the day sauntering around the gardens but then decided to head back towards Te Papa via the New Zealand parliament buildings. We got to the museum and the sun was still shining so we checked out the outdoor part to it. It is the only museum either of us have ever been to that has an outdoor section. Again it was fabulous and really informative but we were starting to get hungry by this point so thought we would go and get something to eat. We didn’t really know what we fancied and wandered down one of the main streets which had loads of restaurants/food halls on
