BUENOS AIRES
27TH NOVEMBER - 1ST DECEMBER
After our mammoth day’s travelling we got a great night’s sleep and were up fairly handy and looking forward to exploring Buenos Aires. Breakfast was included and for an Argentinean one was acceptable enough. The hostel owners were lovely though and full of lots of useful information about the city. The hostel had only just opened and it showed in their enthusiasm for their jobs!! The hostel even did free tango lessons, and the lady was very keen for us to go to a tango show, we weren’t sure but said we’d bear it in mind.We had a walk through the main shopping street mostly just for a wander but we were also on the lookout for a new Ipod for Hel. We had seen that there was a new Apple store in Buenos Aires which had a website but the price was so high that we thought that it must be a mistake. When we got there though the lady in the shop told us
to forget about buying Apple products in Argentina as they were ridiculously priced!! It seemed very strange as everything else was so cheap, but that was the way it was, and a new Ipod was out - poor Hel!
We got a good vibe from the City almost straight away though, the main shopping street is pedestrianised, and is much like any European shopping street, complete with lots of familiar shops!! It is quite a crowded experience though and you find yourself being swept along in the crowds, and then occasionally have the hair-raising experience of crossing four lanes of crazy traffic when you need to cross a road!! There’s quite a few people hassling you to go into their leather shop and lots of people giving out leaflets for their “Tourist Menu Special” in their restaurant, but overall it’s a pleasant enough experience, and certainly a world away from the sandy streets of Colonia
