THE LAKE DISTRICT (ARGENTINA)
lakes. One final push and we were at the top of the ski lifts, a very windy place where we ate our lunch in the shelter of one of the ski-lift buildings. Leftover cheese and onion pie from the night before never tasted so good!! We didn’t hang around too long in the fierce conditions, and made our way down what would be ski runs in the winter, and arrived in the eerily deserted ski village! We decided that we’d opt for the road on the way down as all of us were pretty exhausted. There was a very pleasant waterfall on the way down, which involved a little more uphill, but aside from that it was downhill all the way, and after an hour and a half or so we found ourselves on the bus heading back to the village, tired and wind burnt, but very happy with our day’s achievement!! Another night around the log fire brought to an end a really good day!!

For our last day in Villa La Angostura the
weather really showed us what it could do!! It literally lashed it down all day leaving us no choice but to occupy our time with indoor activities such as writing diaries, sorting out photos and generally not doing much! We said goodbye to Martin and Janice who were off to Bariloche armed with advice from us to treat themselves to an apartment for Christmas!! We were seriously hoping that the weather would improve for Christmas, served us right for boasting that it was really warm in the Southern Hemisphere summer a couple of weeks ago!! The next morning when we went to get our bus there was a slight improvement so we kept everything crossed that it would be a sunny Christmas for us as we headed back to Bariloche and our lovely apartment!!
