BARILOCHE
23RD - 30TH DECEMBER
We arrived at Bariloche around midday and took the local bus to our apartment. It was a little difficult remembering where it was but thankfully we were helped by some friendly Argentines on the bus! We were glad to be having a base for a week it seemed like ages since we had last had a place for a while and we were looking forward to spending Christmas and my birthday here. Unfortunately the apartment didn’t have wi-fi which was a bit of a pain but not the end of the world. Rob went round to see the owners and she said that somebody would be round that afternoon to sort it out, we waited and waited but no-one arrived! After hanging around all afternoon we took the bus into town as we needed to go to the bank and do a bit of shopping! It is never a bit of shopping when Rob is around so we ended up heading back to the apartment with half of our Christmas shopping. We also bumped into Martin and Janice in the supermarket but never managed to arrange to meet up for a drink, Ithink we were distracted by the sight of fresh mushrooms, something we hadn’t seen for a very long time!
The next morning was Christmas Eve and there was more shopping to be done. After another long haul in the supermarket we decided to treat ourselves to a cake from the delightful chocolate shop Rapa Nui! The chocolate cake was seriously gorgeous, but maybe a little over the top and to be honest we both felt a bit sick after it, at least the coffee was good! We also bought a supply of homemade chocolates which again looked very rich. The chocolate in Argentina is just great, they really do give the Belgians and Swiss a run for their money in terms of quality chocolate. We then headed back to the apartment and walked to another supermarket to buy our wine as it was closer to the apartment and we couldn’t have really carried any more shopping bags on the
