SANTIAGO
were all determined that we were going to get out of the hostel and do something!! Santiago is not really big on sights, but one of the things that looked worthwhile was the funicular and cable car on Cerro San Cristobal. Sure enough there were great views from the top, I don’t think any of us had realised just how big Santiago was, I mean we knew it was a big city but this hill was kind of in the middle of it and it just stretched for what seems like miles and miles in all directions!! There was a bit of a view of the mountains as well, which is quite lucky apparently, the smog usually hides them. We had a look around the top of the hill and then rode the cable car to the other side and back. On the way we spotted the swimming pool, which looked unbelievably inviting, all blue and landscaped with a great view over the city. We were all well up for a dip!! We were less up for it when we got there and found out that it was the equivalent of £5 to get in!! We decided to give it a miss and went for a beer
in the hilltop bar instead!! After another couple of bars with happy hours on the way back we treated ourselves to Empanadas for tea and then all went off to a really dodgy club next door to the hostel which was like a school disco which played 80’s style mega-mixes!! Bad!!
Next day was Sunday and in traditional style we spent it chilling around in the sun, watching some football , had a swim, and then I cooked us Sunday dinner. Well that was the plan but unfortunately the oven in the hostel didn’t work well at all, so I settled for stuffed savoury pancakes, which were delicious but a bit of a mission to make in large quantities!!
On our last day Hel and I decided to have a look around the city centre, there were a couple of pretty grand plazas and old buildings, but the overall
