AMAZON BASIN - JUNGLE
afternoon we were taken further up the river in the boat to a small sandy river beach, where we set off seemingly straight into the jungle, Angelo and his machete leading the way!! Pretty soon though we came to a much well used trail and the hacking ceased!! We followed Angelo deeper into the lush jungle and at one point had to cross a fallen tree over a stream, which was not easy in the slippery tropical humidity!! We weren’t entirely sure where we were going, so were quite surprised when after an hour or so we arrived at a wooden platform with a great view of a huge cliff in front of us! Angelo pointed out to us the reason we were here - this was the viewing point for the colourful macaws which lived in holes in the rock. They really were the most beautiful birds - check the photos out, although they were pretty keen on screeching at each other quite loudly as well!!

mistranslation moment, as Angelo asked if we wanted to walk up to the cliff, and I thought he’d asked if we wanted to walk up the cliff!! A little nervous, but up for anything, we followed!! Thankfully it was just a little wander beyond the lookout point, and as we didn’t get too much more of a view of much, we returned to the hide. As we were almost there Angelo motioned for us to go on - I assumed that nature was calling him, but to our astonishment we heard the familiar chop chop of his machete, and the next minute this medium sized tree / plant thing went crashing down in front of us!! Angelo emerged from the fallen remains looking very pleased with himself, and proclaiming a better view of the cliffs!! We were joined by another couple of people there on a tour, but pretty soon it was time to head back to camp.
