SALTA
some other travellers who had been to Africa and were able to pick up some great tips from them. In fact we got on really well with all of them, and after a few beers my elaborate plans for tea involving the tofu we’d found in a health food shop rapidly faded and a quick trip to the supermarket for another bottle of wine and some fast microwaveable food was in order. We ended up checking out the nightlife in Salta until the wee hours - a great night was had by all!! Myself and Hel in fact outlasted them all and ended up in the only place still open in Salta - the petrol station!! For some reason only known to them it doubled up as a late night bar and stayed open even when all the real bars had closed!! Surreal certainly, but unquestionably different!!
Inevitably the next day was spent being very chilled and nursing a slight hangover. I don’t think we ventured further than the supermarket

two doors down all day, and spent most of it in front of the TV, including watching Chelsea’s win over Liverpool in the Champions League. I did manage to cook a rather tasty Chinese using the tofu though, so all was not lost!!
On our last day we decided to check out one of Saltas main attractions, the cable car up to Cerro ****, the hill which overlooks the city. The views from the top were pretty impressive over the surrounding hills and the city. I think that if the weather is completely clear you can see some of the peaks of the high Andes, but apparently that doesn’t happen too often and it wasn’t the case on the day that we went. The top of the hill was really well landscaped and there was a really impressive set of man made waterfalls. The water is pumped up from the bottom to supply them - seems like a little bit of a waste of energy, but hey - they looked g
