SALTA
reat!!

We had decided to walk down the 1070 steps to get back to Salta. The cable car up and the steps down was definitely the right way round!! Even going downhill was hard work!! We walked back to our hostel a different way and checked out some more of the city’s attractive architecture. So that was it for Salta then, we grabbed our bags and headed off to the bus station in a taxi to catch our first class back to Buenos Aires once again.

Much to our annoyance the bus was late!! Only by about half an hour though so it wasn’t the end of the world. Once aboard though we forgave them immediately!! Much like the last time we’d got a suite bus the seats were enormous leather armchairs which recline all the way down to horizontal - just like first class on a long haul flight!! We’d managed to get the two front seats so the view was great.
This really is the way to travel if you have to do a long bus journey, and Argentina really does lead the world in this respect!! The food wasn’t up to much but at least it was hot veggie food - not so common anywhere in Argentina never mind on a bus!! The wine however was awful - another Argentinean rarity - we wondered where they’d managed to find bad wine in this county - we hadn’t in all the time we’d been here!! One slight disappointment was that the champagne didn’t materialise, but if the wine was anything to go by we weren’t missing much!! A couple of films later though and it was time to get our blankets and pillows out for a very comfy nights sleep before our arrival back in one of our favourite cities in the world - Buenos Aires.
