ST LUCIA WETLANDS

21ST - 24TH MAY

It was a fairly long and dull drive to St Lucia, with once again a very chilled border crossing. We’d booked into Bib’s Backpackers, which turned out to be fairly basic but ok nonetheless. There was a little moment of worry when we heard some girls had moved rooms because they had rats in theirs!! A quick inspection of our rooms revealed that they were completely sealed and as they had apparently come from a hole in the ceiling we reckoned we’d be ok.

By the time we’d settled in in was quite late so we just chilled around with a few beers and food. There were four or five English girls who seemed to just sit on the sofa for two days solid with blankets over them watching the TV with the volume up really loud!! What is it about hostels which force people to watch the TV with the volume so loud? I’ve no idea but it’s certainly annoying when there isn’t
anywhere else to go and you’re trying to have a conversation!! We watched a film which was really crap and then headed off to our rooms to read.

The next day we woke up to the sound of rain!! Not something we’d expected, but undeterred we headed off to check out the town. We’d been told by the hostel management that it was a very safe town, and you could walk around even at midnight!! We found a tourist information office and asked what there was to do when the weather wasn’t so great. They recommended the crocodile park, which was only five kilometres away and cheap so we decided to give it a go. We did pop briefly to the beach just for a laugh and it reminded us of Hoi-An in Vietnam - very windy with drizzle!!

The croc park was really good - there were all different kinds of
