MONGOLIA TO BEIJING
25 - 27TH JUNE
We had an early start to catch our train to China, but then the train was late so it was just like being at home! We said our goodbyes to the lovely Oggi and all promised her we would return to Mongolia, she is hoping to set up her own travel company and we hope to use her company to visit again. Before we knew it we were off again and with the rhythmic sounds of the train trundling through the countryside, we were in for a special countryside treat on this journey so we were determined not to fall asleep. For some reason best known to themselves this part of the rail track has so many twists and turns its unbelievable we were trying to work out why they didn’t just build it in a straight line and we came up with many theories but who are we to question why, the scenery was awesome its beautiful to see the herds of various animals happily grazing free, it’s such a shame we only had 3 full days in Mongolia, everybody was really sad to leave but also excited at the prospect ofChina.
The further into the journey we got, the hotter it got and the air conditioning on this train was opening the windows which is all well and good but when you have a desert to cross!!! The scenery was changing fast and so were the animals before we knew it we had gone from spotting horses to spotting camels! We were all starting to feel the heat and poor Sarah wasn’t very well so things were getting a little bit hot and sweaty to say the least not the mention the temperature of the water, it was hot hot hot. We knew we were going to be stopping at some point in the desert and such enough we felt the train starting to slow down and no so gently grind to a halt, we thought it only proper to go and check out the temperature, boy it was like stepping straight into an oven, it was roasting but then joy of joy the station sellers had iced water, wow I have never been so overjoyed to see and
