CHENGDU
about them and they are the cutest things you’ve ever seen, of course I wanted all of them, and one of the younger ones was poorly with a cold. I can’t remember how the poor thing got his cold but he was being very well looked after! I could have stayed there all day watching them, it’s funny when they have enough of having their picture taken they simply just get up slowly turn round and lie back down, about 3 of them did this much to the amusement of everybody! You could also pay to have your photo taken with one of the young ones but we were a bit unsure of the ethics of this and it cost loads so we gave it a miss. I know that all the money made goes back into the centre which is a good thing as they are doing really well with their breeding programmes and also do a lot of work helping save the ones which are still in the wild in terms of habitat protection and stuff like that. I know that it is because of habitat destruction that they have become such an endangered species but having seen them and
heard all of the stories about how lazy they are its no surprise there’s not many left, because basically they are often to lazy to breed and they only come into season once a year! Joking aside its outrageous that there are so few left in the wild and such a small area of habitat for them, China is massive you would think that they could be given so more natural space.
They also had Red Pandas but these don’t get half as much attention as the Giant ones, they are very cute though, they are fox red and have a big bushy tale that is patterned almost like a raccoon, they are from the same family so I guess that’s why! The red ones are less lazy as well there were a couple having a right old tussle, they are so funny to watch. You could also hold the red ones and have your picture taken and you didn’t have to pay for it but again we declined, it seemed kind of wrong somehow. We then watched
