DELHI

13TH - 15TH AUGUST

Kathmandu to Shimla via Delhi!

We got back to Kathmandu without a hitch and stayed in the same guest house, we had an early start the next day as we had to be at the airport at 7.00 a.m. We had ordered a taxi for 6.30 as we thought it would be easier just to pre-book one rather than had to find one and haggle for a price at such an early time of the day! Got to the airport quite early and it was very reminiscent of a Chinese railway station! Everything had to be x-rayed before you entered the building so it was a bit of a scrum to get your bags through and picked up safely the other side of the x-ray machine! You also have to paid an exit tax so Rob queued up and paid for that while I tried to find our Druk Air check in desk - great we thought this airline doesn’t even have its own check in desk, what the hell is the plane going to be like!!! Eventually a sign was put up and we checked in and then went to try and find
somewhere to get some food, there wasn’t anything so we thought we’d go through Security and get something then - what fools!!! Going through Security was a chaotic affair, there was around 5 or 6 long queues which didn’t seem to get any shorter due to the fact that various groups of people were just ushered to the front of each queue, we could only assume that these additions to the queues were late arrivals! We must have been stood in that queue for at about 40 minutes before it moved at all, so we were starting to get a bit fed up with it as were the rest of the people around us. Then for some reason a guy comes over to us and tells us to go to the Diplomats desk and that was that we were through Security! Then we went on to the next part of Security, getting your hand luggage x-rayed and then the final part of Security, getting your bags checked by hand! All of these took ages and we found ourselves in the flight departure lounge (well basic room!) with Rob desperately in need of some
