AUCKLAND
the best advert for a bakery you could have! We got the link bus into town which is a Stagecoach bus, it was really weird seeing Stagecoach New Zealand for the first time, it was so like being back in Manchester! Fortunately they were a lot cheaper than their Manchester counterparts and we were in town in plenty of time for our boat. Again it was a really warm sunny day so we were looking forward to getting out on the water. We had opted for a trip around the harbour and a ferry ticket over to Devonport, an old seaside town, was also included in the price so thought we could do this later on in the afternoon. The boat trip was brilliant, it took you right into the harbour and past the America’s Cup base then out towards the harbour bridge. We were told all about the bridges history and how it had two lanes added by a Japanese company which can move by up to a metre in high winds!!! We were told that it was perfectly safe but still hoped it wasn’t going to be windy when we needed to go over it! The
boat continued for a little further before turning around and then going past the harbour and up to some smaller dormant volcanic islands. The skyline looked great from the water, the sky tower stood proud and the harbour buzzed with a variety of boats coming and going. We were on the boat for around an hour or so and decided that next on the agenda was a trip up the sky tower as there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the views would be good. We paid for the normal and higher observation decks and were whisked up there in an ultra fast lift. We did the normal sky deck first and were treated to a number of sky-jumpers leaping off and dangling precariously in front of the large windows! These people must be mad, I guess if you like that kind of thing then it would be a fabulous buzz, but its not really my cup of tea, I had enough trouble walking across the glass floor, never mind throwing myself head first from a great height down towards a very busy city! We then took the lift even higher to the highest
