MOUNT COOK
me!!! It should also visit the Larson Ice Shelf and the huge tabular icebergs that break off the Ronne Ice Shelf further South. And, weather permitting Shackelton’s Hut, he was the first British explorer and his hut is pretty much preserved and left exactly as it was when he made it! We also listed the rest of the trips in preferential order. Once we had done this we headed back round to the village and went to the café bar to use the internet and email our new best friend Sarah at Polar Expeditions. We were keeping our fingers crossed that their would be spaces available on this trip. After this we headed back to the campsite, Rob cooked a meal and we generally just chilled quite literally for the rest of the evening - it was freezing!!!

We woke up early and slightly pulled back the curtains to see a bright sunshiny day and a huge big snowy mountain! Rob was up like a shot! We were both
amazed by the spectacular view from Bongo, and once we got outside we were even more amazed by the utterly stunning scenery all around us, it was fabulous. On today’s breakfast menu was pancakes! After Rob’s first attempt I took over and to my amazement it turns out that I am better at making pancakes than he is!!! I was very proud of my superior pancake skills so really enjoyed my stint on breakfast duty!

We had bought a walks leaflet the day before and planned to do the Hooker Glacier walk, which was about a 3 hour round trip. It was a beautiful sunny day so we were very much looking forward to our walk, the air was so fresh and the mountains looked very majestic silhouetted against the bright blue sky. It was also supposed to the a gentle walk which suited me down to the ground, remembering the difficult Avalanche Peak!
