MOUNT COOK
you could see the thickness of the base of glacier and the lake was a very strange grey colour due to it forming directly from the glacier. It was an amazing sight, it was almost like being on another planet - check out the photos! It was so peaceful apart from the odd avalanche rumble, and it was so nice to feel the warmth of the sun on your face!
After a while and many many photos we decided it was time to started heading back. Rob had wandered off and I was getting the last shot (honest!) of the mighty Mount Cook set against the glacier and lake full of icebergs! When I turned round I saw Rob talking to someone and to my surprise it was Lois and Beth who we had met at Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers! had to walk back the same way!
Lois and Beth were unsure of where they were going to stay so we said our goodbyes once we got back to the campsite. We moved Bongo onto a site which would get the sun first thing and put the kettle on. The next thing we see another van pull in and it was Lois and Beth, they had decided to stay over. I think there decision had something to do with the fact that we were saying how we may well take advantage of the village cafe-bar happy hour and gorgeous big open log fire! After chilling around for a while we all headed off the village which was around 1.5 km away for a well deserved pint! Nobody drove as there was a foot path directly from the campsite, so we all wrapped up and weren’t particularly looking forward to the walk back but I think we all managed to push that part to the back of our minds!
