around our fire and watching the campsites comings and goings, as the campsite was massive and after dark resembled a festival site!

The next morning we went for a wander and checked out the rest of the site, it was even bigger than we first thought and it took us a good while to wander around. We also checked out the boats for hire but decided it was a little bit too expensive for us! We chilled out for the rest of the day and it was just nice to relax after the previous day's epic drive.

As we were only around 25 miles outside of Santa Barbara we decided it would be a nice Sunday thing to do and check out the place. Santa Barbara was built in the style of a Spanish town after the original town was flattened in an earthquake in the 1930's. It was a beautiful place and very Spanish! The
first thing we did was to walk down to the beach and were surprised to see an anti war demo. There were lots of information boards explaining how bad the war was and generally about how unhappy people were with it. There was also a tribute to each and every solider who had been killed since the war started, this was shown with little white crosses laid out on the beach each with the soldier's name next to it. It was a very moving thing to see and when you see how many of those little white crosses there were it really did bring it home to you how many people had actually lost their lives. After this sobering experience we carried on down the pier before heading back in to town.

We were also thinking that it would be a shame for Andy, Sue and Eddie not to experience this place as it was great. Cath had already been here the last time she visited America but we both knew that she had suggested
