THE CANADIAN ROCKIES
Russ and Ruth went off for a ride.

After dropping the bikes off we drove the forty or so kilometres to Lake Malign, a beautiful turquoise lake up in the mountains (not an unusual thing around here, but this one was particularly nice!!) We had a walk around there and then stopped off on the way back to have dinner with a view. This meant driving back in the dark, which started off with us passing an enormous bull moose on the other side of the road, but was otherwise uneventful.

Our furthest destination north took us out of Alberta and just over the border into British Columbia to Mount Robson provincial park. Mount Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at almost four thousand meters. True to form however, when we arrived at the visitor center it was totally obscured by
clouds. Undeterred we headed off to our chosen campsite a few miles down the road and found ourselves in a beautiful riverside location, in a somewhat rustic campsite which nevertheless had it’s own charm!! We settled in for a pretty chilled night, in every sense of the word, as the temperature had dropped considerably!!

The next morning we drove back to Mount Robson, and on the way had a look at Mount Terry Fox, a mountain named after a cancer patient who despite being terminally ill and having one false leg walked across most of Canada for charity until his failing health finally stopped him. An amazing and very touching story - this guy achieved things that most healthy people couldn’t even dream of. Turning the next corner with our fingers crossed that the cloud had lifted we were treated to our first glimpse of Mount Robson - and what an incredible sight it was!! The face of the
