THE CANADIAN ROCKIES
mountain was a sheer snow covered wall almost three thousand meters high, which positively gleamed in the bright sunlight it was bathed in!! One of the finest looking mountains we’ve seen - and we’ve seen a lot!! We trekked up to Lake Kinney, a good uphill slog of a few hours, and were rewarded by fantastic views of Robson. This was a superb walk, the kids did brilliantly with a combination of walking and riding in their pram and on various people’s shoulders!! We had only planned to stay for two nights, but the scenery in these parts was so special that we all decided that an extra night was a must. Predictably enough that meant another late drunken night which was a great laugh, with no worries about our rowdiness as the nearest neighbour was well out of range!!

The extra night’s stay and the fairly extreme cold of the nights meant that our RV was running out of gas, and the thought of an
evening without the central heating wasn’t exactly appealing. We’d been told that the closest place to refill was the town of Vermont, about a half hour drive away. So Hel and I went on a mission there while Russ and Ruth stayed back and made preparations for a Sunday roast - yippee!! Getting gas turned out to be a real headache, as the petrol station had it but had to wait for the boss to arrive in an hours time, and then when he did arrive the pump turned out not to be working. We checked out the nearby campsite which had it, but there was no-one there. After doing some shopping though the campsite owners showed up and eventually we were refilled and on our way back to a delicious Sunday lunch - just what the Doctor ordered. Another good walk in the afternoon blew away the cobwebs, this time we walked the “Lookout Trail” - another good uphiller with fantastic views across the valley at the top. Upon our return to the van we were treated to the sun setting on Mount Robson, and it’s snow
