PARQUE NACIONAL LOS GLACIERS
was picking up and the dark clouds were looming, so after a short while there we headed back to our hotel for some chilled out reading and diary writing. We were hoping that tomorrow, our last day, would bring better weather and we’d be able to go and do another walk up to the base of Mount Fitzroy.

No such luck I’m afraid!! After waking up to what seemed to be a promising start, with a patch of blue sky outside our window, a closer inspection of the sky towards the mountains revealed a humongous black cloud which turned into a downpour within ten minutes!! This was pretty much the pattern for the rest of the day, and even a short walk was just out of the question. This was a real shame, and there was a touch of glumness to the mood for the rest of the day, a combination of reading, writing, and checking emails. Later on spirits were slightly lifted with a delicious tea in a restaurant
which apparently used to be a sheep-sheering shed!! It had been a real shame that the weather had turned bad, but we couldn’t complain too hard, we had seen an amazing sunset on the way in, and then had the most incredible day’s walking among the mountains. The weather is so unpredictable in these parts that people really do come here and see nothing, so we thanked our lucky stars for what we had got and looked forward to our next destination, El Calafate and the Moreno Glacier!!

El Calafate
10th - 12th January

As usual our onward bus was early in the morning, so we dragged ourselves out of bed at around 6.15 and were on our way by 7. The bus ride went back the same way as we’d arrived and once again the scenery was amazing.
