ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
23RD JANUARY
Gerlache Straight, Wilhelmina Bay, Foyn and Neko Harbour
After breakfast we had a zodiac cruise planned in Foyn harbour. This used to be an old commercial whaling site and there were signs of this everywhere. Our group had waited for the zodiac rush to die down and found ourselves in a zodiac with Edwina. Unfortunately just after we set off the zodiac engine failed - oh no not again! Edwina radioed back to the ship and another zodiac was sent to rescue us again. Our zodiac was manoeuvred out of the way so that the last zodiac could be filled and set off. Speedy came onboard and tried to get it going but with no luck, the engine was dead as a dodo. After much trying another zodiac driver armed with a pair of scissors came aboard to relieve Speedy. Finally the engine started and we were away, 20 minutes behind the rest of the group. We headed to Foyn harbour where we saw the remains of the half sunken rusty water carrying boat from the whaling days. We did a quick lap around the boat and saw the divers preparing for their dive. Some people on Troels’s zodiac had asked if they could wait and watch the divers go in. Apart from our little group we had 4 other people in our zodiac. Unfortunately it seemed that these 4 people and Edwina wanted to hang around and wait for the divers - not the most interesting of things to look at and I’m sure the divers would admit it too! But alas even though our Super Six group didn’t want to wait our requests to move on were ignored and we found ourselves bobbing around in the same place waiting for the divers! Rupert’s zodiac had headed off and was out of sight exploring the bay and we were sat here doing nothing, it was pretty annoying. By this point we were getting a bit fed up of certain people and this did nothing to change our minds. Finally the divers were ready and went in, then
