ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
Edwina decided that she would move the zodiac and follow Troels. I felt it was the worst zodiac outing we had experienced, we didn’t get to see half of the things we could have seen had we have moved on earlier. At the end of the day we wanted to see scenery not divers preparing for a dive but our opinions didn’t count and we spent the rest of the cruise mainly looking at remnants from the whaling industry, instead of what the vast majority would have liked to see, the stunning scenery that surrounded us.
Once we were back on the ship we changed and got a hot drink from the bar then went for lunch, deciding from now on that the 6 of us would sit together at meal times. Having said that there were still a good number of people mainly from the UK that were a pleasure to spend time with. The ship was now heading for Neko harbour which meant a spectacular cruise through the Gerlache Straight. Again the weather gods were on our side and it was beautiful warm and sunny day. The Gerlache Straight is a narrow passage boarded by steep snow covered mountains and endless glaciers that glistened brilliantly in the afternoons sunshine. The icebergs were also bathed in sunshine and the blue hues were out of this world. We stood at the front of the ship and relished every moment. We arrived in the harbour by late afternoon the scenery was breathtaking. The morning’s annoyances with the zodiacs had slipped our minds and we found ourselves looking forward to yet another wonderful landing.
