SIEM REAP AND ANGKOR
so on the way back we decided that it was time that we treated ourselves to a beer - we’d not had a drink since our wine evening in Pai! One last job though was to get a photo of us with our tuk tuk driver so we could get it printed and framed to give him as a gift, as he’d refused a tip on the first day. Unfortunately as I posed for the photo next to the driver my leg came into contact with the exhaust of the bike and quite effectively removed most of the skin from an area about the size of a tennis ball! Ouch!! The Cambodian treatment for burns seems to be to smother them in toothpaste - which although odd, seemed to work quite well, and I’m happy to report that it is healing nicely. After a few beers I had the opportunity to speak to Russ on the phone, which was very cool - we remarked that it was fifteen years since we’d not spoken so long!! We were so tired that night that we went to sleep without even bothering with tea, just nibbling at a packet of crackers we had left over!!
The next day we were treated to the luxury of a lie in until 6.15!! It was basically a day of “cleaning up” all the temples which we’d missed, including the Rolous group, which are the oldest ones of them all - dating back to the Ninth Century!!. It was another thoroughly enjoyable day - although by this point we were in agony with our leg muscles - it amazed us both just how much it affected us - I guess they just don’t make steps like they used to - thank God!! The ride back to the hotel brought to an end three days which I can truly say rank right up there as one of the real highlights of our trip so far. We arrived back feeling extremely weary and a good deal sore, but filled with memories that we‘ll carry with us forever!!
The next day we got the bus back to Phnom Penh, which was a pretty smooth journey, and then
