CAIRNS & THE ATHERTON TABLELANDS
was over and we were back at the boat! Phew, I had done it and survived!!! I had enjoyed it but I don’t really think it is something I will want to make a habit of. I’m not a natural but glad I gave it a go. I think I’ll stick to watching BBC/National Geographic underwater programmes from the comfort of a sofa!!! Just after we got out, we were asked if we wanted to do another dive, I certainly didn’t but Rob fancied it, so about half an hour later he went out again. He was a lot better at the whole process than I was, as he is a lot more confident in deep water and doesn’t flap. I was pleased he’d done another dive as it meant he could go and enjoy himself with having to worry about me!!! Just after he’d gone off, the heaven’s opened again and we were treated to a blustery downpour, I got talking to one of the girls from our dive and realised that I wasn’t the only one who was petrified.
Rob was gone for another half and hour and really enjoyed it, he had seen a turtle, held some living plant type thing and seen loads of yeap you guessed it - fish! We couldn’t move and go and check out another part of the reef as the weather was too bad, so we just stayed around the same spot all day. We did go out snorkelling again as I so wanted to try and master it, but we didn’t stay out too long as the sea was just to choppy, well that was my excuse!!! I’m really glad we did an intro dive as well as snorkelling and I much preferred the dive than I did the snorkelling, but not something I’ll be doing very often me thinks!
We started to head back in the early afternoon, everyone had seemed to enjoy themselves despite the bad weather. Again the weather wasn’t overly kind on the way back to Cairns and if anything it was a lot more choppy than it had been on the way out.
