SYDNEY
each of us thinking, why on earth would they close off central Sydney, had their been a bomb attack or something equally as dreadful? Its quite shocking that, that is the first thing you think of. We were also aware that one of the roads that was closed off was the one with the KLM offices on it, gulp!!! The bus got to its last stop and we got off with some trepidation but phew, it looked like nothing drastic had happened and all of the roads were open to the public. We both breathed a massive sign of relief and headed to KLM as fast as we could. Thankfully we got all of tickets changed without a problem and we didn’t end up paying anything to change our dates. This was a huge turn up for the books as we had been half expecting at least a few hundred US dollar bill, but the lovely KLM lady sorted everything out with a big smile and wished us a happy trip! Phew, everything was done, we were ready for New Zealand and the rest of the world!!!
As we
wandered down the street we were chatting and trying to work out why they had closed off all of the roads. I said I bet its for the Queen, I bet she is here before she goes to Melbourne for the start of the Commonwealth Games. Low and behold we turn the next corner, see a few people lining the street so I ask an old lady what’s happening, and she said ‘oh the Queen is due past any minute‘!!! The next thing the police move everybody back and the Queen came past in a big posh car!!! How mad is that??? We had Tony Blair in Udaipur and now the Queen in Sydney!!!
From there we made our way down to the harbour, as we wanted to get the Manley Ferry which would mean our first time out on the water in Sydney harbour. We found the ferry and it was a great ferry ride, it was a lovely sunny day and the views from the boat were great. It only took around 30 minutes to get to Manley. Manley was a lovely little place, it had a great beach and a few good window
