THE SOUTHERN ALPS
wine!
Anyway we bought a decent bottle and it was a roaring success!

We thought we’d have the kitchen to ourselves but just after our dinner another couple came in to use the kitchen. We got talking to them and it turns out that they moved over from the UK in November and have permanently set up home in the North island. Denise was a social worker and Paul was ex-army and working as a motorbike courier in Auckland. They were a lovely couple and we had a really good natter with them and had a really good night. They were going whale watching and swimming with dolphins the next day, which would be a pretty cool thing to do.

We woke and actually remembered the date - wow it was 11 months since we had started travelling. We both still think that it is the best thing that either of us
has ever done, we have been lucky enough to see the most amazing things and cultures that I would have never in a million years thought I’d see. How grateful we are to 336 Barlow Moor Road and the incredible rise of house prices (not to mention the tireless working visits of all parents!!) After breakfast we were ready for a big walk and we had planned to do the Waterfall Track which is was only 2.5 km in total but had an ascent of 400m and at the top was the 41m high Dog Stream waterfall. It was a pleasant walk even though it was uphill! It was quite strenuous but nothing over the top. There was one quite steep part and I had stopped for a little rest and was huffing and puffing thinking it was getting a little hard when all of sudden a man ran past me! Yeap he was running uphill and he hadn’t even broken out into a sweat, the vision of him running with such ease got me going again pretty quickly! I don’t know if he was a mountain rescuer or just a local nutter but he put us to shame that’s for
