DEATH VALLEY & LAS VEGAS
place such as this and decided it was time to move on!
We then headed down to the Badwater basin, the lowest point in the western hemisphere, 282 feet below sea level. It was an incredible place, there was almost a small lake , well more of a pond but I was so surprised to see water. The water was extremely salty and you could see the salt crystals glistening through the odd ripple in the water. You could also walk out on the huge salt plains but with the temperate at it’s highest point of the day at 112F we didn’t really want to stay out too long. It was a funny kind of heat, even though it was boiling hot it was kind of bearable for a short period of time! The salt plains looked amazing and seemed to go on forever. It was here that we would be taking the alternative route out of Death Valley, as this was end of the tourist attractions. The next part of the journey was like heading off into

the unknown, as we weren’t quite sure what treats this road would have in store for us. It wasn’t a particularly well used route but we knew that it would eventually take us into Nevada.
This seemed like one of the longest roads I have ever driven on in my life, it was never-ending and extremely bleak in places. It just seemed to go on and on and on, with no indication as to how far you had travelled and how far you needed to go. At some random point the main well tarmaced road seemed to run out and we were treated to a fairly bumpy and knackered road. After what seemed like an eternity the scenery finally started to look like we may be getting closer to civilisation. Whilst I like the scenery I do find desert a bit overbearing at times, it can get to become so very monotonous.
