DEATH VALLEY & LAS VEGAS
seemed like hours. What was also alarming was the amount of construction work that is going on, it seemed like entire mini-cities of housing estates were gobbling up any available land, which went on for as far as the eye could see. All I could think of was god here’s another stark reminder that global warming is here to stay. Las Vegas is obscene in its abuse of energy, it is beyond belief.

Anyway … after some nifty driving we found ourselves pulling up outside our classy digs - America’s Best Value Inn! It was cheap, cheerful and had a swimming pool and hot tub, which was just what you needed after a very long drive. After a refreshing soak we went to chill before thinking about venturing out. We were all very tired and all had different ideas about what we wanted to eat.

We hit the streets later than we had planned. We were located about 10 minutes walk from the world famous strip. On turning the corner we encountered our first glimpse of the strip, across the road on the corner was a full reconstruction of a typical New York scene! Blackpool instantly sprang to mind, it just seemed to have that tacky funfair feel. It was time for a beer! We found a bar/restaurant and went inside for a well needed drink. It went down a treat but then we kind of realised that it was fairly late and we were all starving so we headed off in search of something. Rob and Andy had chatted at great length early in the day that they wouldn’t mind an all you eat buffet - no surprise there! We walked a fair way down the strip before we realised that the restaurant they had earmarked was right down at the bottom of the strip and basically too far away. We then went in search of the monorail station as this we thought would zip us down to the restaurant in no time all! We followed the first sign,
