NORTH TO PERU
that the guide book has basically slagged off, and vice versa!! We walked through the main part of town and came across the church made entirely out of cast iron. It was a really strange thing as it looked just like any other church but when you tapped it, you got that metal sound which amused us no end! After this we headed up the main hill to the lookout which claimed to have the best views over the city - it wasn’t wrong. The walk up was fairly short and steep but we got up there in no time at all and were rewarded with fabulous views over the city and surrounding harbour. It was a lovely warm sunny day with a cool refreshing breeze. We checked out the whole area, sat and admired the view for a short while before heading back down and calling in at a café bar for a spot of lunch. It was the first time in what seemed like ages that there was salad on the menu, so it was salads all round!

After lunch Pilar and Virginia headed off to check out the seal colony and myself and Rob headed off to the supermarket as Rob had volunteered to cook curry for everyone later on. We also checked out a little more of the town but I think we had really covered most of the sights already. Whilst not being big on tourist attractions it was a pleasant enough little place for a day and night. Needless to say Rob’s curry went down a treat and I’m sure there was enough left to feed the whole of Arica!
The next morning we were up handy and after getting a few hints on getting to Peru the 5 of us headed off in the general direction of the bus station. We had only been walking for approximately 5 minutes when a big old car stopped and asked us if we wanted to go to Peru!!! This is perfectly normal so we didn’t think it was some kind of weirdo trying to kidnap us all! Pilar and Virginia negotiated a
