NORTH TO PERU
the case, so we were a wee bit squashed to say the least. After watching the promotional video and then listening to yet more loud pan pipe type music we were relived to hear that they turned the music off, but we were more than surprised to find that the next bit of entertainment was a game of bingo!!! Yep! Can you believe that they bingo on Peruvian buses? We found this highly amusing but declined the offer of a game! Thankfully they only seemed to have one round and the winner was soon up on their feet and collecting their free bus ticket prize. After all of this entertainment we didn’t know what was coming next, it turned out to be a film and a pretty good one at that - it was about The Cuban Missile Crisis with Kevin Costner. The only problem was the bus arrived just before the film had finished but we guessed it was near the end and the bus ride had been a lot longer than we had imagined it would be so it was quite a relief to get off it.
Again the 5 of us had booked into the same hostel. It was turning out to be good fun travelling with a few more people. After grabbing our bags we headed to the taxi stand and waited as the hostel was sending a taxi to come and pick us up. I’m not sure quite what happened but a man came down and said he was the taxi. We all picked up our bags and loaded them into the taxi and I asked the driver if he was for Rob Riley and he assured me he was. We were about 5 minutes into the journey when the driver asked where we were going. It was then it dawned on us, that we had been had and he wasn’t our driver after all! Thankfully being with 2 Spanish speakers we weren’t too worried, but we didn’t have the hostel address as we didn’t think we’d need it as the hostel was sending a driver to pick us up - doh!
