CALGARY
FRIDAY 22ND - 29TH SEPTEMBER
Our flight to Calgary was at 10.15 a.m. and we were very much looking forward to seeing some greenery and having a drop in temperature! American had been far better than we ever could have expected but another country beckoned and we were up and on the airport shuttle by 7.00 a.m. The plane was a strange little thing, it was really long but very narrow with pretty uncomfortable seats but apart from that the flight was fine and we got some pretty good views of the Grand Canyon but were on the wrong side for Bryce - doh! We didn’t get too much of a view of the Rockies either due to it being rather cloudy but we weren’t too concerned as we would be seeing them soon enough.Calgary airport is pretty small but we decided to stop and grab something to eat before negotiating the bus into the city. The bus only took us part of the way then we had to transfer
to a tram for the last part into the actual city. None of this proved difficult other than there being a massive staircase to climb from the bus to the tram - again we had forgotten how heavy our bags were having not really worn them for ages!
Our hostel was located a couple of blocks from the tram stop and we didn’t have any trouble finding it, although we did think it looked at bit like a dole office from the outside. Thankfully the inside was far nicer and our room was fabulous, but the kitchen was very disappointing! Much to Rob’s horror the cooking facilities included a microwave and a little table top oven/toaster! Oh how he grumbled!!! The only down side was that we only had a double room for 3 nights and the last 4 nights would be in a dorm, not our favourite type of accommodation! The sun was shining so after settling in we decided to head into the city to check it out. We headed
