CUZCO
and headed for the Inca museum which was fascinating. Someone was making a film so we had to dodge a film crew in the first few rooms but we soon lost them and then almost had the place to ourselves.
Then we headed down to the station where we purchased our tickets to Machu Picchu. Now here is where things got rather annoying. It is incredibly expensive to visit Machu Picchu and the price of the train ride helped empty our bank account some more. The train journey is 4 hours and costs £35 each, its not that the journey is long, it’s just the train goes really slowly! Now in a country where poverty is rife and an en-suite room in Chivay costs £2.50, you do start to feel a little bit ripped off at the cost of visiting Machu Picchu. I have already mentioned the extreme gap between rich tourists and the general population, but if you felt like some of this money was going back into the community

to help alleviate the poverty, then you wouldn’t mind the cost of things. But it most certainly doesn’t go back into the community, apparently a British company owns and runs the railway - say no more, as expensive and crap as the rail service back home!!!
Feeling a bit miffed that Machu Picchu was going to cost us over £100 for basically a whole day’s visit we grumbled our way back to the plaza and sat down in the sunshine for a little rest and a drink. As we were both staring into space who came walking along but Pilar and Virginia? It was great to see them and we instantly made arrangements for meeting up later that evening.
Time was ticking by and the storm clouds were gathering once again, so we called it day for the sightseeing - 3 museums in one day is enough for
