JOBURG, NELSPRUIT & BLYTHE RIVER CANYON
One more day left and we had to arrange our to car hire and our bus to Nelspruit, where we had a few days before meeting Mike. Much to our annoyance although our hostel advertised a free pickup from the airport, we were to be charged about twelve quid to be dropped off back there!! Added to this the only bus to Nelspruit from the airport was about twenty quid each, it was going to cost us around fifty quid to get to a place which was just a few hours drive away!! We were not happy to say the least - we‘d got a first class luxury bus for 20 hours for less than that only last week!! We had found a really good deal on our car hire though, and when we checked it again today it was loads cheaper. Reminding us very much of what happened with the flight here so we booked it straight away!! We’d decided to keep the car for us after Mike left for the journey down to Cape Town. It was much cheaper if you rented it for a month, and worked out not much more than the shuttle bus we’d been looking at.
So that was Johannesburg really - or at least Benoni anyway. Not much to talk about but a pleasant place to stay with some nice people, but not much else. We were taken back to the airport where we popped to the Swiss Air office to book our veggie meals and our seats, and then were picked up by our little minibus for the journey to Nelspruit. It was as we were pulling away that we realised that we hadn’t got round to taking any photos of our hostel, which is a bit of a shame as our little tin shack was definitely pretty unique as accommodation goes!! So we hastily took a quick picture out of the window and I’m afraid that’s it for photos in Johannesburg!!
We were dropped off in Nelspruit at the BP garage, and phoned for our promised free pickup. We were told to wait for the arrival of a white condor, which kind of confused us
