JOBURG, NELSPRUIT & BLYTHE RIVER CANYON
until we realised that this was a model of Toyota four wheel drive!! The guy who picked us up Crazy Dave (not quite sure why he was crazy but hey-ho!) was pretty friendly and we were at our hostel, the Old Vic, in no time.
When we’d booked we’d been told that our chosen accommodation was not available for one night, so he was going to put us in a more expensive room for one night. It turned out that the more expensive room was a self catering chalet at the bottom of the garden that was just gorgeous!! It was really big and plush and had a bathroom with a big bath and huge windows which overlooked the adjacent nature reserve. It also had it’s own private patio with a braai area. We loved it instantly and made a deal with the owner to take it for the full four nights. It was a little more than we are used to paying but it was a lot less than it should have been and we figured that as we were

going to celebrate our two year travelling anniversary here it was worth splashing out!!
Once again here we found something we’re not used to. The guy who worked there as cleaner and general bod (a black guy) insisted on calling us “Sir” and “Ma’am”. This shocked us and didn’t like it, but even after we told him our names he still insisted on using these formal titles for us!! Strange!!
Unfortunately Hel had a nasty cold so we spent the rest of the day just chilling and I cooked us a tasty dinner in our outdoor terrace kitchen!! We had a very comfy night’s sleep, a definite step up from our Jo’burg tin shack!! The next day we wanted to go to the local shopping mall to buy some stuff we needed for Kruger and look for a guide book and some pants for Hel. After our
