JOBURG, NELSPRUIT & BLYTHE RIVER CANYON
the sandstone which were made by small whirlpools created where two rivers join here. The walk down to them was through some lovely countryside, and then the river itself had carved narrow deep channels through the sandstone - there were little bridges across where you could look down and see the potholes themselves.

We drove further up the canyon before heading over Abel Erasmus Pass, a 1200 meter high pass over the surrounding mountains. We emerged from a tunnel next to the Olifants River, a major river which flows all the way through Kruger. We had all remarked on just how green and scenic it was around here - not really what we’d expected to find in Africa. Once we drove back down onto the plains though it was a flat drive all the way to Orpen Gate, where we would spend our first night with the Kruger wildlife in Tambotti Camp, a short drive from the
gate.
