SAPPORO
visit!

The walk back down to the station was done at a fairly brisk pace basically just to get some life back into us both after freezing up on the chair lift! We took the train back into to town and were on a mission to find the camera shop. The shops are big in Japan and the camera/electrical shop was huge, 5 floors of electrical gadgets, Rob was in his element! We found the lens and a new camera rucksack and got a really good deal, the only English speaking shop assistant gave us the lens at duty free and 20% off the camera rucksack - result! They didn’t do trade ins, but when we had asked at a different shop they offered us a fiver for our old £150 lens so we thought we’d chance our luck, send it home and see if Andy could sell it for us - bless you Andy!

We had bought an all day metro pass so thought we’d head back to the hostel,
drop the lens off, grab a snack then head out to ****Okadio*** Park and check it out. ***Okadio*** Park is where the famous Snow and Ice festival is held each February, unfortunately we were going to miss it, but prices go up when its on and accommodation is scare so maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing.

We were back at the hostel for about an hour in total then decided it was time to head out. It had gone dark by this point but we hadn’t really seen the city in the dark so we thought we’d brave the cold, head out and maybe eat out, if the cold got too much! The park was looked fantastic, they were having an White Lights illumination festival, so there were lights on all of the trees and a large light structure. It looked superb against the backdrop of snow. There is also a tower at the end of the park which is another Eiffel Tower affair, they seem to have a strange fascination for copying
